![]() Reduce deviantArt Lag/Comp Overheating (2021) UPDATE: FIX HAS BEEN FOUND THAT NEGATES THE NEED TO CONSTANTLY RE-BLOCK DA-CHAT-WORKER WHEN IT UPDATES!!! Please read through the step-by-step and block the new line of code as necessary!Okay, so I haven't seen a proper full step-by-step for this anywhere but I HAVE seen lots of info titbits and fellow dA users complaining about the immense amount of overheating that deviantArt enacts on their poor computers. Also, has said that this is also affecting the Opera browser users as well. I would suggest trying that first, but if the tab with dA still crashes after that, THEN use a Private/Incognito window/tab. if the issue was still happening, I would have maybe gotten a couple sentences out before it would crash and lose everything that I typed.UPDATE: Thanks to replies from shnoogums5060 and, another thing that can be done is clear the cache and cookies in your browser. I wrote about the issue and listed a couple workarounds here:ĭA, Chrome and sbox_fatal_memory_exceeded errorsSo, in the last few days while using Chrome, I have been getting this error while on dA: sbox_fatal_memory_exceeded I did a search on that error, which happens when something is pulling too much memory that it exceeds a certain limit, and is usually caused by either an app in Chrome or a website I decided to test something, and ran Chrome with several tabs open, including DeviantArt, then watched the progress of the processes in Task Manager Lo and behold, one process started eating up memory like it was a kid going at their Halloween candy It got up to 8 GB yes, 8 GIGABYTES of local RAM (literally 1/2 of this system's available memory) before it shut off I checked, and the dA tab had the error To doubly confirm, I refreshed the dA tab, watched Task Manager processes for Chrome again, but this time stopped the process Guess which tab died again? Yep, DeviantArtThere IS a workaround: open up an incognito window in Chrome and view DeviantArt through there, so if you're getting the same issue as of late, do this and you should be fine The reason I know what this trick works? Because I wrote this post in its entirety. So I hope it works for you too!!!Unfortunately I can't offer much problem solving as I don't understand much about how it works, I just managed to eventually make it work xD But I figured I should share the steps I went through in case it helps others, since there's no guide online for it already for babies like me who don't understand how uBlock works.Best of luck everyone! I hope wrestling with the journal editor was worth it for a few of you x.x Reply Since blocking the javascript that enables the chat, me and a number of friends have reported their computers cooling right down and not always chugging the moment more than one dA tab is open. I can't claim to understand any of the science behind it but if anyone knows feel free to drop an explanation in the comments. This fix was found by explained in their comment here - ) STEP 4:You're all done! Now when you hover over 'Chat', you should see this (if you did everything corrently!), The evil is defeated! : DYes, turns out dA chat is behind the process-power-stealing problems. STEP 3:In 'My filters', copy paste the following line of code: ||/services/da-chat-worker/*.*.*/$script,domain=So that it looks like this:, Then click 'Apply Changes'!(This line of code works for all subsequent versions of da-chat-worker so you won't need to keep updating it. It's an extension for your browser (Chrome and Firefox versions exist that I know of, not sure about others!) Google it! STEP 2:Right click the extension and click options., In options, navigate to the 'My Filters' tab. So I am throwing this journal together quickly to help anyone else prevent dA from breaking their computers, bc the staff sure don't seem concerned with making their site functional for you! Please note before we start that this fix will disable the 'chat' feature of the website (it is the source of the problem, so it's one or the other here unfortunately) TL DR VERSION FOR ANYONE WHO ALREADY KNOWS HOW TO USE uBLOCK ORIGIN:Block this script - *.*.*/ - STEP 1:Download uBlock Origin. ![]() How to stop deviantArt Crashing/Lagging (2021) UPDATE: FIX HAS BEEN FOUND THAT NEGATES THE NEED TO CONSTANTLY RE-BLOCK DA-CHAT-WORKER WHEN IT UPDATES!!!
